The Sacred Ride

The staff at inside the ride have over 40 combined years of experience in the bike and board industry.

JEFF GROSCH
With 20 years in the industry, Jeff knows bikes and boards. Starting out in the ski and board shops of Whistler, it wasn’t too long before he turned his back on the hectic pace and packed up life, wife and family and moved to Nelson. After working in the local sport retail market, Jeff saw an opportunity to control his own destiny so in 1995, he and Mark founded The Sacred Ride in a basement on Baker Street. Seven years later, Jeff splits his time between his family, his friends, the shop and the sports he loves. Jeff

MARK HOLT
If you’ve ever ridden in Nelson, you’ve probably heard of or met Mark Holt. Considered by many to be one of the founders of Nelson-style riding, Mark has a vast knowledge of local trails and a friendly, laidback approach to life. When he’s not in the shop, Mark can be found on his bike or with shovel and chainsaw in hand, maintaining many of Nelson’s great trails. That is until the snow flies, then look for Mark in the steep and deep Whitewater powder. Mark

MAYA GROSCH
Maya's presence at The Sacred Ride makes for a fairly unique experience in the biking industry - a women-friendly bike shop. A mom of two and a silver medalist in BC Cup Masters Downhill racing, Maya has three years of certified coaching experience (NCCP Mountain Bike Level I and CMBIC Level I), instructing women and youth the finer points of mountain biking. When she's not out rippin' up the trails or teaching others, Maya works part-time at Sacred Ride in Nelson. Maya

LEROY BROWN
Leroy bonded to biking at the age of 3 and grew up riding the singletrack, stunts and gnarl of the Canadian Shield in North Bay, Ontario. In 2004, he heeded the hype and headed to Nelson where he now works as a masterful wrench for the Ride. Leroy’s need for speed is legendary: Look for him rippin’ it up on Cherry Tops, Fat Chance or Shitaker. Off-season, he fills the void by snowboarding at Whitewater. Maya

MIA
Mia brings her vast knowledge of the outdoors and her love of mountainbiking to her role as part-time sales person at The Sacred Ride. When not in the shop, you’ll find Mia helping out at the Valhalla Wilderness School or in winter, cooking for a lodge or skiing in the legendary local back country. Maya

DUDE
Dude hales from the forest fringe and hidden hits of upper 6-Mile. His passion for all-things-tuned-to-perfection transcends the bike bench to his backyard where you’ll often find him groomin’ the green with his LawnBoy. Like all Sacred Ride staff, Dude appreciates the beauty of a finely-tuned ride on a sweet trail. When not in the shop, you’ll find him on Paper Bag, Taster’s Choice or Meat Hanky. Maya
